The Granite Gear Blaze 60 is a truly unique piece from this iconic American brand. You might say that a backpack weighing around 1.5 kg doesn’t quite fit our philosophy. But the Blaze 60 is incredibly durable with a fantastic load-bearing capacity! It is therefore no coincidence that in 2019 the backpack won the prestigious award from  Backpacker – Editors’ Choice.

If you browse the market, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a fully equipped backpack with a load capacity of over 22 kg that weighs just 1,470 grams!

At first glance, the backpack is very similar to its lighter sibling – Crown 3. It is based on the A.C. back system with a rigid plastic frame and double foam padding. Combined with the circumferentially adjustable Re-Fit hip belt, it creates a great combination for maximum comfort and high load capacity.

In addition to being available in three back lengths, the backpack also offers an excellent option to adjust the height of the shoulder straps, thereby shortening or lengthening the back panel.

Durable Material

Custom-made 210D Robic nylon triple ripstop is used in the most stressed areas, which is the most durable material Granite Gear uses. The main body of the backpack is made of 100D ripstop nylon, which also offers high water resistance.

Compared to the Crown 3, the Blaze is even more heavily padded overall for maximum comfort when carrying heavier loads. The hip belt, in particular, is very well designed. Thick padding, large zippered pockets, and, most importantly, an adjustable waistband make it one of the most comfortable hip belts available.

The backpack has a classic loading system, but it also features a side zippered access panel, so you can reach items stored at the bottom of the pack. The height-adjustable lid can be easily detached, and the backpack can be worn without it. The lid can also be used as a chest pocket or waist pack, which is especially handy when you want to keep smaller items close at hand.

Plenty of pockets

The backpack features very spacious, drawstring side pockets. It also includes the ever-popular front mesh pocket, which holds everything you want to keep close at hand (a jacket, sweatshirt, snack, water filter…). The pocket in the lid is perfect for other small items. Inside the backpack, there is also a pocket for a hydration bladder. The huge pockets on the hip belt can easily hold even the largest smartphones, a compact camera, or other smaller items.

Practical details

The backpack features a range of compression straps, making it very easy to adjust the overall compression of the pack, organize additional gear, and more.
