The Cooper Spur is the flagship ultralight tent from the iconic American brand Big Agnes. The most spacious, durable, and stable.  The Bikepack series is designed specifically for cycling adventures. The poles feature short segments for maximum compactness and the durable cover can be attached directly to the bike. 

HyperBead™

The main innovation of the new models is the use of a new, proprietary material treatment technology  HyperBead™. In addition to being free of harmful substances, this technology offers us a whole range of benefits. In terms of numbers, according to the manufacturer, tents featuring HyperBead™ technology have the following parameters compared to standard materials:

HyperBead™ contains no PFAS or other harmful substances.

Maximum space

The Copper Spur series is designed for maximum space and comfort while keeping weight to a minimum – it features two side entrances and two spacious vestibules. Thanks to the crossbar in the middle of the tent, the side walls of the inner tent are nearly vertical, providing enough space for two people to move around. If you want to sleep “under the stars,” you can set up the inner tent on its own. On the other hand, if you want to minimize weight, you can use the original “footprint” you can pitch just the flysheet on its own, leave the inner tent at home, and effectively try out what it’s like to use a tarp.

Simple setup

The same applies to setting up this tent as to all Big Agnes tents—you set up the inner tent first; the specially designed poles are color-coded, so you can’t make a mistake. Stretch out the corners of the floor and stake them down; snap the mosquito net onto the aluminum poles. You can therefore use it to sleep under the stars while still being protected from insects. Drape the waterproof flysheet over the inner tent and orient it correctly—the straps at the corners are again color-coded; at the top, thread a short cross pole through the rubber loops in flysheet, and then secure the flysheet to the poles in several places with Velcro—this not only helps with proper tensioning but also significantly increases the wind resistance of the entire tent.    

At the point where the pole attaches to the floor, simply clip the flysheet to the strap on the floor using a plastic buckle. You can either thread the other tensioning points onto the floor tent pegs or pull them through the cord, then use the linelock to secure them separately. With a quick glance at the instructions, it goes smoothly and quickly even the first time. Everything is simple and well-thought-out. Many details of the tent show that Big Agnes knows what they’re doing—whether it’s the use of line locks or, for example, snapping the mosquito net onto the crossbar and threading it through the pockets in the flysheet.

Details designed for cyclists

The key changes from the standard version are poles with shorter segments and a waterproof cover that can be used as a bag. The individual segments are only 30 cm long. Thanks to this, the tent can be packed into a truly compact package that fits even between the bends of road/gravel handlebars. The new waterproof cover is also related to this. The very sturdy waterproof cover, designed like a roll-top dry bag, comes with two straps. On the dry bag, you’ll find loops that hold the straps in place, and thanks to the straps, you can attach the dry bag with the tent wherever you like. On the handlebars, on the rack, on the fork—wherever you want. 

Another small detail of the bikepacking version are the loops for drying clothes. These are located both at the top of the outer flysheet and at the top of the inner tent. A super-spacious pocket above the campers’ heads can be used to store a helmet.
