Essentially, this is a “streamlined” version of the now legendary down jacket Rab Microlight Alpine. As is customary, this model has undergone gradual development over time, and Rab has taken particular care with this year’s version.

The human population is constantly growing, which is why it’s important to think about sustainability and strive to minimize our impact. Rab has also made significant strides in this area in recent years. The result is a multipurpose vest that is entirely made from 100% recycled materials. Used down is collected in collaboration with the P.U.R.E. recycled down program.

All the down is washed, disinfected, and treated with a water-repellent finish by Nikwax. Rab teamed up with P.U.R.E. to conduct a study confirming that recycling requires less water and energy consumption and has a lower carbon footprint than standard down processing. The used down is sorted in Italy, and P.U.R.E. is the only company with Global Recycling Standard certification.

The outer shell of the vest is made from proven Pertex Quantum with a high-quality water-repellent DWR finish, excellent wind resistance, and very good breathability. Pertex is also fully recycled, including the inner 20D nylon.

Rab has put a lot of effort into the product’s design, and we must say right away that the new Microlight is much fresher than previous generations and fits noticeably better. The vest is now constructed using a combination of zoned micro and nano baffles to increase warmth without adding bulk or weight.

The vest is filled with 84 grams (size M) of recycled goose down with a hydrophobic treatment from Nikwax and a fill power of 700 cuin. The down is, of course, R.D.S.-certified. High-quality YKK zippers are a given. The main zipper is lined with a flap to prevent heat loss, and the neck features comfortable microfleece on the inside and chin protection.

You can warm your hands in two side pockets. A smaller chest pocket is also a nice touch. The bottom hem of the vest can be adjusted using the integrated drawcord.
