For more than 10 years, this American brand has been characterized primarily by the following features:

Spacious toe box

The manufacturer places great emphasis on the natural function of the foot, which ensures sufficient space in the toe box. This gives your toes plenty of room to spread out fully. In general, Topo Athletic shoes are among the widest trail shoes on the market, placing them right alongside the popular Altra.

Excellent foot support

Even though the shoes are wide, they provide excellent support for the foot in the midfoot and heel areas. Thanks to this, the shoe offers very good stability even on rough terrain and performs exceptionally well during fast, tempo runs.

Excellent traction and durability

The Vibram® Megagrip outsole, with its aggressive lug pattern, ensures excellent traction on the trail. The best you can get in a trail shoe today. The midsole is made of the proven ZipFoam™ memory foam. The total cushioning height is 28 mm. The insole is made of quick-drying FKT Insole foam and, together with the extra-breathable upper, ensures the shoes dry quickly.

The heel now features a pull tab for easier on-and-off and is compatible with gaiters (Velcro + D-ring).

Lightweight and breathable upper

It has been redesigned. It is made of two materials with Rip-stop fabric. The front of the shoe features a lightweight and breathable mesh, which remains sufficiently durable thanks to its tight weave. The mesh at the back is even more breathable, which helps improve airflow and wick moisture away.

Zero drop

Unlike the Terraventure 5 model, the Pursuit has a zero drop, which is closest to a natural stride, as is the case with Altra shoes, for example. However, please note that for those who are not used to a zero drop, this may not be the ideal option, and it is necessary to start very cautiously.

Our Experience

We’d been eyeing Topo Athletic shoes for several years and really started taking an interest in them after Petr Kosek tested them during his crossing of the Appalachian Trail in 2018. Since then, Petr has fallen in love with them, and it was only a matter of time before they appeared in our lineup.

This American brand was founded in 2013 by runner Tony Post. Choosing the Right Size 

When choosing running shoes, we recommend selecting a size at least one size larger than your usual shoe size. This will help you avoid blisters, pressure sores, and other discomforts. If you’re looking for shoes primarily for long-distance treks, a larger size is an absolute must—we often recommend choosing shoes up to a size and a half larger. Long-term exertion on challenging terrain puts significant strain on the foot, and the feet swell quickly. What feels comfortable during a short training session or a weekend hike is often not enough for a multi-day trek.

When choosing a larger size, however, it is absolutely essential that your heel stays secure in the shoe. If your heel "slides around," tightening the laces usually won’t solve the problem—in that case, we recommend choosing a different type or model of shoe. A properly fitting shoe is the foundation of comfort and the prevention of pressure points and blisters
