The Inov8 Trailfly Speed men's shoes are the new generation of running shoes from this popular British brand. 2024 is a year of change for Inov8. For the first time in the brand’s twenty-year history, it has undergone a rebranding, a logo change, and a whole series of new additions to the product line, characterized above all by a return to its roots. The new Trailfly Speed shoes reflect the experience and innovation of these two decades. The new Trailfly Speed is the less cushioned sibling of the Traifly version and will be better suited for more "competitive" types of runners.

Wide last

A very welcome change is the significant widening of the last. Inov-8 has put a lot of effort into developing the new shape, which supports the foot’s natural function even more. The wide version has a width of 105 mm in UK size 8, which provides significantly more space for the toes and the foot in general than previous generations of shoes.

Breathable and sophisticated upper

The mesh has also undergone a significant transformation. The seamless upper with stabilizing elements from the laces to the heel perfectly secures the foot, so it stays in place even during fast and technical sections. Of course, there is a toe cap and a sewn-in tongue that prevents small stones from getting inside the shoe.

New midsole compound

The Trailfly Speed is a slightly less cushioned version than the Trailfly model. It has an 11 mm heel height and a 4 mm drop, making it one of the shoes that better support a natural stride. The Flyspeed cushioning foam is very light, flexible, and soft, thanks in part to the use of nitrogen during production. Thanks to this foam, energy return is truly top-notch. This is further enhanced by the excellent Boomerang insole, which Inov8 has been using for several years and has proven itself to be outstanding. The Meta Plate provides protection for the foot against sharp rocks. It also improves stability and generally adds a sense of confidence on technical terrain.

Sole with revolutionary graphene

The new outsole is designed for maximum versatility. You’ll have no trouble running through more technical terrain, light forest trails, or even the occasional stretch of harder asphalt. As with most models, Inov8 has once again incorporated a blend of revolutionary graphene into the outsole, which significantly increases durability and traction on the trail.

Choosing the Right Size 

When choosing running shoes, we recommend selecting a size at least one size larger than your usual shoe size. This will help you avoid blisters, pressure sores, and other discomforts. If you’re looking for shoes primarily for long-distance treks, a larger size is an absolute must—we often recommend choosing shoes up to a size and a half larger. Prolonged exertion on challenging terrain puts significant strain on your feet, causing them to swell quickly. What feels comfortable during a short training session or a weekend hike is often not enough for a multi-day trek.

When choosing a larger size, however, it is absolutely essential that your heel stays secure in the shoe. If your heel “slides around,” tightening the laces usually won’t fix it—in that case, we recommend choosing a different type or model of shoe. A properly fitting shoe is the foundation of comfort and the prevention of pressure sores and blisters.
