Lightweight and Spacious

The Haven Tarp is designed to offer maximum interior space with minimal weight. Thanks to the 122 cm width between the peaks and their position closer to your head, there is plenty of headroom inside even when you’re sitting or changing clothes. It can be set up using two trekking poles, or hung from a line between two trees using the loops at the peaks. The sides can be fully opened, rolled up, and secured, giving you perfect views and ventilation.

Setup is incredibly simple—unfold the tarp, stake the 4 main peaks into a rectangle, and gradually lift it onto both poles. Attach the vestibules to the sides, walk around the tent, tighten the straps at all four corners, and you’re done!

The Haven is definitely a great tarp for most activities you’ll want to do as a pair. At the same time, it’s so incredibly lightweight that you can even carry it as a solo tarp for just one person. In this case, you’ll have an extreme amount of space inside. It also seems like a great option for active families with a small child. For example, we take our little Kryštof (2 years old) on our trips with it, and we all fit inside without any problem.

With most tents or tarps equipped with a NetTent, you set up the inner tent first and then drape the flysheet over it. This isn’t exactly practical when setting up or packing the tent in the rain, because rain will get into the inner tent. With the Haven, you set up the tarp first and then hang the inner tent inside it while it’s still dry. When packing up in the rain, you can easily pack everything up inside, pack the inner tent, and finally the wet Haven—but it’s so small that you can easily stuff it into a side pocket on your backpack without worrying about getting your gear wet inside. At your first stop in nice weather, just pull out the Haven, unfold it, and it’ll be dry in a few minutes.

Seam sealing

Warning! The tent does not have sealed seams!!! As with other UL tents and tarps, you must do this yourself. For tarps made of silicone-coated nylon, you can purchase this adhesive or mix your own blend according to these instructions.  It might be a hassle, but at least you’ll get to try setting up the tent and get familiar with it while taping it. If this is an insurmountable problem for you, then you aren’t ready for the ultralight approach and should look for your gear in a different category… Ultralight is about knowing your gear and its limits, and treating and caring for it accordingly. My reward is a feather-light backpack that makes it a joy to spend whole days roaming the mountains!
