The classic aluminum sleeping pad from the Czech brand Yate has a wide range of uses. For our purposes, however, we’ll mainly use it as a great complement to a lightweight, summer-style air mattress that doesn’t have a high R-value.

If you own a sleeping pad with a thermal resistance of around R 1 and plan to sleep in temperatures around freezing, a classic aluminum mat can save you from a sleepless night. Thanks to its reflective aluminum layer, it ensures that the heat you radiate is reflected back to you. We recommend placing the mat with the reflective layer facing up and ideally placing it directly on top of the air mattress or inside your sleeping bag.

It also performs its role perfectly during quick trips to the mountains, when you’re only taking the bare essentials and plan to take a quick nap during the trip but don’t want to carry a heavier sleeping pad. The mat has reinforced edges and also features compression straps. Even so, the regular size weighs a mere 100 grams.

It comes in sizes 180x50 cm (Regular) and 190x60 cm (Large).
