British manufacturer Rab has truly succeeded with its new Aeon backpack line. In addition to introducing the excellent Aeon Ultra running series, the manufacturer has also launched the Aeon hiking series, which is complemented by the "hybrid" Aeon LT series. This series will be perfect for day trips, quick alpine ascents, or “hut-to-hut” treks.

Water-resistant material

The Rab Aeon LT 25 is made from durable 70D x 140D nylon, which also features a Trishield coating with a 1500 mm water column. This material is 50% recycled. This reaffirms the goal Rab set for itself in 2020: to become a climate-neutral company by 2030.

Ventilated back panel: The backpack features the Air Contour™ back panel, which adapts very well to the contours of the body and distributes the weight of the backpack excellently. The back length of the backpack is 48 cm, which is an average back length that will fit most body types. However, if you are shorter or, conversely, very tall, you should definitely consider this and ideally measure your back length. The frame is covered with a lightweight mesh that is cleverly offset from the support structure to ensure the best possible ventilation.

Shoulder straps like a running vest: The backpack’s shoulder straps feature a rather unique design. They are based on the running version of the Aeon Ultra. The straps are made of a two-layer 3D mesh, which again offers perfect comfort and breathability. On the right strap, there is a deep, mesh pocket primarily designed to hold a soft flask. This ensures you always have water on hand while on the move. The left strap has a spacious zippered pocket that fits most smartphones or items like energy bars, gels, etc.

Great pockets

Spacious, mesh pockets are located on the sides of the backpack; they are angled so you can reach for a bottle even while walking. The right pocket is divided into two compartments, one of which is located on the minimalist hip belt. The left pocket has a classic, single large compartment. The backpack also features a spacious front pocket that can hold a variety of items you need to keep close at hand—a waterproof jacket, a sweatshirt, a snack, etc. On the backpack’s lid, there’s a smaller zippered pocket that’s ideal for storing valuables. Inside the pocket, there’s also a small carabiner for attaching keys. The backpack has a standard zippered opening to the main compartment, and there is an additional pocket inside the back of the backpack for storing a hydration bladder.

Stays put like a rock

The backpack’s fit on the back is very cleverly designed and provides excellent stability even during really active running. The two height-adjustable chest straps and the shoulder strap adjustments, ingeniously connected to the hip belt, work very well. For better stability, the backpack also features essential balance straps.

Practical details

They’ve even thought of a way to attach trekking/running poles. This is done using a system of two adjustable straps, allowing you to easily secure your poles even while walking. This way, you don’t have to waste time stopping and taking off your backpack. There’s also a loop for attaching an ice axe or a flashlight.
