Rab has come out with a true Cadillac among daypacks this year. The Rab Protium 33ND is a real success. It features a well-designed back system, plenty of storage space, and many other handy features for the trail. Experienced hikers who already have their gear sorted out will have no trouble packing everything they need into this backpack, even for a weekend trip. It’s also perfect for quick alpine hikes “from hut to hut.”

In addition to the main compartment, it features three external mesh pockets, the middle one of which is truly spacious. The side pockets are perfect for water bottles and gear you need to keep close at hand. Two pockets on the hip belt for small items. The lid features an external zippered pocket and one internal pocket, ideal for valuables. There is also an integrated rain cover pocket. Everything is within easy reach, and the backpack offers many options for organizing your gear.  

Both the hip and chest straps are anatomically shaped and offer a wide range of adjustment options (the backpack is sold in one size). The backpack features a system for attaching hiking poles and many other loops and straps for securing gear.

Water-resistant material

Rab The Protium ND 33 L is made from durable 70D x 140D fabric, which also features a Trishield coating with a 1500 mm water column. For protection against rain, the integrated rain cover located in a pocket at the bottom of the backpack comes in handy. This is a nice bonus that isn’t often found on most lightweight backpacks.

Air Contour™

The backpack features the Air Contour™ back system, which feels quite sturdy yet adapts very well to the contours of the body and distributes the backpack’s weight excellently. A very important feature is the ability to adjust the back length. It is adjustable from 48 to 53 cm. The frame is then covered with a lightweight mesh that is cleverly offset from the frame to ensure the best possible ventilation.

The placement of the hydration bladder pocket is brilliantly designed. It is accessible from the outside of the backpack, so you can see how much water is left and easily refill it at any time without having to take half your gear out of the backpack.

All in all, the Rab Protium ND 33L is a highly versatile, compact backpack suitable for most outdoor activities. It has a very reasonable weight, durable material, and is exceptionally well-equipped overall.
