The Rab Veil 12 running vest is the latest addition to Rab’s new running collection, which is truly impressive! Over the years we’ve spent running and hiking in the mountains, we’ve tried a whole range of vests and waist packs from other brands, but with virtually all of them, we’ve always run into some limitations or poorly designed details. With Rab, however, it’s clear that serious thought went into the design, and every detail makes sense and is fully functional. You can feel in the DNA of this entire running collection that fell running—or mountain running in general—is simply in the British blood.

Ultra-lightweight, durable, and extremely breathable material

A key feature of the Rab Veil 12 vest is the Ripstop Mono Mesh material used, which is essentially an extremely lightweight, durable, and breathable mesh that absorbs almost no moisture. Mono Mesh is 50% lighter and absorbs up to 70% less moisture than most similar meshes. Thanks to this material, you stay dry and, most importantly, don’t overheat unnecessarily, as is the case with other, bulkier materials used by other manufacturers. In this case, Rab has also used a mesh that stretches only in the directions where it’s actually needed. 

Stays put like a charm

The entire cut and the way the vest "secures" to the body are perfected. Even during very intense running, you’ll barely notice it’s there. The vest tightens at the chest using a clever system of two interconnected elastic cords. You simply hook these onto the loops on the other side and pull them as needed. The lower back hem of the vest also features a silicone print for maximum reduction of vest movement.

Plenty of storage space

The vest has two separate storage compartments on the back. The top shallow open pocket is for items you need to have as close at hand as possible. This pocket also features an additional zippered compartment, which is ideal for storing various valuables. Below this top pocket is a zippered opening to the vest’s main storage compartment, which holds the most gear. This compartment also has a separate divider in the back designed for a hydration bladder. The side pass-through pockets are great—ideal for storing a windbreaker, sweatshirt, etc.—and you can reach into them even while moving. The front of the vest offers plenty of storage options. There are two deep pockets for 500 ml soft flasks, which are also included in the package! The bottles are perfect for drinking from while running and are securely held in place by an elastic strap. There are two additional zippered pockets on these panels, which are incredibly spacious. You can easily fit your phone, energy bars, and other essentials inside them. One of these pockets also has a small divider inside specifically for your phone, so it doesn’t bounce around in the pocket.

Holds clothes, water, electronics, snacks, energy bars, and gels

At the top of the straps, there are two smaller elastic pockets that are perfect for gels. I’ve seen many vests where the gel pockets weren’t designed well, so during a race you end up fumbling for a gel and can’t seem to get it out. Raba has thought this through again, and these pockets are very easy to access. One of these pockets also contains an emergency whistle and a small carabiner for attaching keys. On the sides of the main water pockets, there is additional open access to space for storing other essentials. As a result, it offers above-average capacity, making it ideal even for truly ultra-long distances. The icing on the cake is the excellent attachment of running poles using two drawstring loops. The poles do not get in the way while running, and most importantly, you can detach them at any time without having to take the vest off. Reflective prints are a given for clear visibility even in the dark.

Three sizes

The vest comes in three sizes to fit different chest circumferences: S (86–94 cm), M (94–101 cm), L (101–112 cm).
