Rab Filament Beanie – a lightweight yet warm and highly breathable beanie that had long been missing from our lineup. That has finally changed with the arrival of the Filament. Rab kicked off 2020 in style and set a goal to gradually develop sustainability and minimize our footprint as much as possible. However, this isn’t just some superficial “marketing” plan; Rab takes great care in evaluating recycling methods to ensure that it all makes sense.

The base of the hat is made of recycled Thermic™ fleece, which provides proper insulation. Rab solved the issue of breathability and moisture wicking with a structure featuring horizontal stripes on the inside, alternating between areas with more and less insulation. The material thus insulates through the stripes with more fleece and wicks sweat away through the stripes with less.

After the first few uses, it seems to us that this system wicks sweat better than the previous grid structures in the Power Grid and also dries faster. The Filament Beanie is thus an excellent, lightweight, and very comfortable hat suitable for a wide range of uses. Whether for running in cold weather, cross-country skiing, cycling, or—thanks to its snug fit—even under a helmet, such as during ski mountaineering. It also makes a great hat to wear while sleeping on long treks.
