Tarptent ProTrail Single-Wall Tent
Code: ST-TT-PROTR ST-TT-PROTR-F-R ST-TT-PROTR-R Choose variantProduct detailed description
It’s a hair lighter than its predecessor. It can still be set up using two trekking poles, but you can also purchase it with the original aluminum poles. The lower rear strut can be replaced with virtually anything of a similar length, and the front peak can now be hung or tied (for example, to a tree) if you don’t want to carry anything with you.
Tarptent is a legend in the world of ultralight gear and, to the great satisfaction of thousands of users, has been on the market since 1999. In America, Tarptent is synonymous with lightweight tents. Behind the brand is Henry Shires, who made his first Tarptent for himself on the Pacific Crest Trail. Since then, he has tested his tents on thousands of kilometers of trails in Europe, New Zealand, Nepal…
The tents are still sewn in the US, made from proven material (Silnylon), simple, original, and superbly crafted—ensuring they will serve you for many years to come. Few brands have consistently received such excellent reviews for all their products as Tarptent—just read the hundreds of journals from long treks all over the world…
Tarptent offers tents for 1 to 4 people, both single- and double-wall models, which can be pitched using trekking poles or classic tent poles, so everyone can choose the right one for their needs and conditions. All Tarptent tents feature a floor, complete insect protection, and a zippered entrance.
If you’re concerned about condensation, we recommend reading our article dedicated to condensation. “Why Tarptent? Because lugging a tent around is a nightmare!”

Warning! The tent does not have taped seams!!! Unlike other UL tents and tarps, you have to do this yourself. For tarps made of siliconized nylon, you can purchase this adhesive or mix your own blend according to these instructions.
It might be a hassle, but at least you’ll get to try setting up the tent and get familiar with it while taping it together. If this is an insurmountable problem for you, then you’re not ready for the ultralight approach and should look for your gear in a different category… Ultralight is about knowing your gear and its limits, and treating and caring for it accordingly. My reward is a feather-light backpack that makes it a joy to spend whole days hiking through the mountains!
The fabric the tent is made of is highly durable, ultralight, and flammable—treat the tent accordingly! The fabric can withstand heavy loads, but it’s easy to burn or tear through!
Tarptent ProTrail:
- Weight: 740g including 4 stakes.
- Extremely durable design and quick setup—you’ll be done in under 2 minutes
- You can set it up using any trekking poles approximately 115 cm long, or the original poles (for an additional 800 CZK). If the pole is too long, simply angle it diagonally.
- Sturdy and reliable tensioning even in demanding conditions
- ProTrail has adjustable height—it’s up to you whether you want to anchor it all the way to the ground or raise it slightly for better views and ventilation.
- Under normal conditions, the front guy line isn’t necessary, so nothing gets in your way at the tent entrance. It’s a good idea to use the front guy line in strong winds.
- Adjustable floor – in the rain, you can raise the edges significantly to prevent water from leaking in or the tent from getting flooded during a storm. And in nice weather, you can lower them to gain more interior space.
- The tent is completely enclosed by a mosquito net to keep out all kinds of pests. Large mesh panels ensure excellent ventilation and views
- The tensioned mesh panels protect your legs from contact with the flysheet
- The front “beak” protects the entrance from rain and creates a spacious vestibule.
- The triangular vertical wall at the foot of the tent can be fully opened or closed from the inside—you can leave it open at night (it is additionally protected by a mosquito net) for better ventilation and close it from the inside in case of a storm.
- Tent material—lightweight Silnylon does not get damp and dries extremely quickly.
- Very compact when packed – the stuff sack is slightly larger to make packing easier, but it can still be compressed quite a bit.
- Reflective guy lines – you won’t knock the tent down when you step outside at night with a headlamp to relieve yourself, because you won’t miss the lines…
- Integrated tensioners on the guy lines.
