The enormous interior space was achieved by using short curved poles at both peaks of the tent—creating a spacious arched ceiling. With a height of 114 cm and a width of nearly 140 cm, four of you can easily gather inside to play cards.

The Lunar Duo has two entrances and two large vestibules with many configuration options. When you fully open and roll them up on both sides, you’ll have unobstructed views and perfect ventilation, while still being protected from rain and insects. You can leave just half of each vestibule open—for example, when it’s quite windy and cold. Or you can close both vestibules completely and simply pull them up using the drawcord, or pull them all the way down, depending on whether it’s pouring rain or how much ventilation you want to prevent excessive condensation inside.

The vestibules are truly enormous; in the gallery, there’s a photo showing a 60L backpack tossed inside, and it’s completely lost in the space.

The first time you set it up, it’s a bit tricky to figure out where to insert the short curved pole, and when erecting it, you need to be careful not to have the mosquito net wrapped around the top of the pole—it could get damaged. The second time around, however, everything goes smoothly, and setup is really quick and easy.

When deciding whether or not to buy the Outfitter, you need to consider where you go most often and under what conditions. If you’ll be camping frequently in temperatures around freezing with high humidity or rain, you’ll have issues with condensation and drying it out in the morning. For regular summer trips in the mountains, where you have a tent for occasional rain and mainly as protection from bugs, I wouldn’t worry about it—just make sure for good ventilation, and condensation will be minimal. The floor is a classic design with raised edges, and the tent is completely enclosed by a mosquito net. That’s fantastic given the weight and space. Personally, I prefer a separate tarp without a groundsheet or mosquito net, and I usually sleep under the open sky even in freezing temperatures. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll occasionally get bitten and have ants and spiders crawling over me. In exchange, I have a lightweight shelter that’s highly versatile and dries easily.

The tent flysheet does not have taped seams!!! As with other UL tents and tarps, you must do this yourself.

It might be a pain, but at least you’ll get to try setting up the tent and get familiar with it while taping it. If this is an insurmountable problem for you, then you aren’t ready for the ultralight approach and should look for your gear in another category… Ultralight is about knowing your gear and its limits, and treating and caring for it accordingly.
