Fenix HM51R Ruby V2.0 Rechargeable Headlamp
Code: EL-FE-HM51R-V2.0Product detailed description
We spent a long time searching for the near-perfect headlamp that would meet our needs. After an extensive search, we settled on Fenix, and after about a year of intensive testing, we can say with a clear conscience that it is the best headlamp in our lineup—and perhaps on the market. It immediately became mandatory gear for all members of our team.
Limited Edition for the Czech Republic
The Fenix HM51R is a limited edition headlamp designed exclusively for the Czech market. After years of experience with Fenix headlamps, the brand’s exclusive Czech representative had a model custom-built to meet customer requirements, and the result is a truly impressive product.
Lots of modes and features
The headlamp features a premium, high-performance Cree XP-G3 LED with a neutral light tone, so it doesn’t distort the color perception of the terrain. At full power, it has a beam distance of up to 120 meters. The white light has 5 modes: 700 lumens (0.5 hours), 400 lumens (1.5 hours), 150 lumens (2.5 hours), 50 lumens (8 hours), and 3 lumens (120 hours). A new feature is digital power control, which maintains stable output until the very end.
Overheating protection is an important technical feature of this headlamp, so the values listed above should naturally be taken with a grain of salt, as they represent the sum of the maximum possible runtime for each mode.
For example: Operation in the highest mode is limited to 1 minute; after that, the output gradually decreases to approximately 500 lumens over 5 minutes. If the internal temperature of the headlamp rises above 60°C, it automatically begins to further reduce the output in gradual steps until the temperature stabilizes. Once the flashlight’s temperature drops below 60°C, the output will gradually increase again. Operation in 400-lumen mode is limited to 5 minutes, after which the output gradually decreases to 200 lumens over 5 minutes.
Red LED
Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without two Everlight red LEDs with four light modes - 5 lumens (36 hours) -> 1 lumen (100 hours) -> red flashing 5 lumens (72 hours) -> SOS 5 lumens (72 hours) The memory function for the last used mode is very handy. So after each time you turn it off and on, you don’t have to go through the hassle of clicking through all the modes again. The memory works for both the white and red lights. Just “double-click” and you’re back where you left off. The headlamp is powered by a single rechargeable RCR123A (included), which is recharged directly in the headlamp via USB-C. The flashlight can also be powered by a single-use CR123A battery. (The highest available mode will be 130 lumens).
High-quality craftsmanship and thoughtful details
The headlamp is now housed in a plastic mount from which it can be easily removed and used as a handheld flashlight. Additionally, thanks to the magnetic tip, you can attach the light to any metal surface (car hood, etc.). The light can, of course, be rotated in any direction within the mount, and even during very intense running, it does not rotate on its own. The headlamp body is made of high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and is impact-resistant, dustproof, and waterproof to IP68 standards (up to 2 meters). Thanks to the materials used, the weight is a fantastic 80 grams, including the strap and battery! The headlamp strap is sufficiently wide and features several reflective elements. The strap is perforated to better wick sweat away from the forehead.
Multifunction control button
A rubber switch is located on the side of the headlamp, which controls all functions. The switch also features a battery status indicator light. After briefly pressing the switch, the battery status is displayed via a green or red light. If the indicator LED is green, the battery is charged to more than 85%. A green flashing light indicates 50–85% capacity. If it is red, the battery is charged to 25–50%. A red flashing light indicates that less than 25% of the battery capacity remains. The indicator works correctly only with rechargeable RCR123A / 16340 batteries. All in all, this headlamp is clearly a top-tier product in its category.
From our team, Honza Žďánský put the headlamp through a long-term test, and here are his observations.
