Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody FZ

The new Rab Ascendor series of technical mid-layers features a sophisticated combination of materials for the best balance of thermal insulation and breathability during all kinds of activities, not just mountaineering.  The Ascendor Summit Hoody FZ is the ultimate model in this series. Since 2020, Rab has set a goal to gradually develop sustainability and minimize our footprint as much as possible. However, this isn’t just some superficial “marketing” ploy; Rab takes great care to evaluate recycling methods to ensure it all makes sense. So, naturally, Rab’s new mid-layers also feature recycled materials.

Pertex® Quantum Air + Thermic™ G

Lightweight and windproof Pertex® Quantum Air is used on the chest and part of the abdomen, the upper sleeves up to the elbows, and the lower part of the hood (ear coverage). A DWR finish provides light water resistance. Pertex is lined with ultra-warm, absorbent, and highly brushed fleece, which, together with the outer material, is exceptionally breathable. Lightweight and breathable Thermic™ G fleece is used on the waist, sides, lower torso, lower sleeves, hood, forearms, and underarms. This combination effectively wicks away moisture, making it ideal for highly aerobic activities and suitable for use as both an outer and mid-layer.

Accessories

The jacket features a close-fitting hood with an elastic hem and is designed to be worn under a helmet if necessary. The bottom hem of the jacket is fitted with an elastic hem. The sleeves also feature elastic cuffs equipped with thumb loops. The jacket’s hem is “dropped,” meaning it slopes downward from the torso toward the seat, thus protecting the lower back. The central zipper is a YKK and the jacket has a single chest pocket, also with a YKK zipper.

Usage

The Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody FZ provides warmth, wind protection, and some water resistance (DWR finish). We would recommend it most for demanding winter ascents, mountaineering, and general climbing activities. It will certainly hold its own on ski mountaineering and backcountry expeditions as well. However, it also serves excellently for less ambitious activities—cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking. Thanks to its ingenious combination of materials, it can be used as an outer layer or as a classic mid-layer in a layering system. For fans of pull-ons, we offer the Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody.
