This year, Rab has unveiled a true ultralight gem in the form of the Rab Mythic 120 Modular sleeping bag, weighing just 330 grams. This is an updated and lightweight version of the Rab Mythic Ultra 360, or rather Mythic Ultra 180, which are among the most technologically advanced sleeping bags in our selection.  

Rab Mythic Ultra 120 Modular

The weight reduction (in addition to the overall lower down content compared to its predecessors) was achieved mainly thanks to the principles underlying the quilt sleeping system. The down is placed only in the top and bottom sections of the sleeping bag, as well as at the feet. There is no down on the back, but unlike a classic quilt, you don’t lie directly on the sleeping pad; instead, there is a layer of recycled 10D Atmos™ between you and the pad. It is essentially a “closed” quilt. Just like with a quilt, the sleeping pad provides insulation for your back. This could be a very interesting option for adventurers who are eyeing a quilt but worry about whether they can seal it properly, yet don’t want to carry the unnecessary weight of “dead” down found in a classic sleeping bag. Due to its construction, this sleeping bag does not meet the criteria for EN testing, so we only have the so-called Rab sleep limit available. Rab sleep limits are based on the manufacturer’s many years of experience, supplementary tests, and feedback from athletes and the testing team. This should definitely be taken with a grain of salt; not only does everyone perceive cold differently, but it is also more of a reasonable limit for the sleeping bag’s usability. To maintain the Rab sleep limit of 0°C, the manufacturer recommends using a sleeping pad with a thermal resistance of R4 or higher.  

Insulation + TILT

Insulation is provided by 120 grams of premium goose down with a fill power of 900FP and a water-repellent treatment that offers partial protection against water. Of course, the Rab comes with a certificate of origin for the down Responsible Down Standard.  The outer material is lightweight, breathable, and recycled 10D Atmos™. In the down-filled areas, it also features Thermo Ionic Lining Technology (TILT). In short, individual fabric fibers are coated with an extremely thin layer of titanium, which helps reflect the user’s body heat back to the body, thereby increasing thermal comfort without compromising the fabric’s breathability or increasing the overall weight of the sleeping bag. Laboratory testing has shown that the use of TILT technology increased efficiency by up to 32% compared to a model with conventional fabric and the same amount of down.   

Accessories

The pillow cover works great even with a down jacket or clothing and generally increases the sleeping bag’s usability and sleep comfort. The YKK® zipper is diagonal for easier entry and exit, as well as better ventilation on warm nights. It is covered by an insulated flap that prevents the zipper from catching. The back of the sleeping bag features straps for securing and fixing a sleeping pad. We recommend pairing it with the new Rab Ultrasphere 4.5, which is already a hot hit this season, but the sleeping bag fits all "Rab" sleeping pads in regular size. This sleeping system weighs less than 700 grams in total! The Rab Mythic Ultra 120 Modular sleeping bag won the prestigious ISPO Award Winner.
