For more than 40 years Rab has been producing top-quality mountain clothing. In collaboration with athletes and with attention to every detail. The collection has gradually expanded from mountaineering, through ski mountaineering to running. The logical next step is to expand the collection to include cycling. Thanks to his detailed knowledge of materials, construction, and the needs of gravel and MTB cyclists, Rab was able to create an innovative cycling collection, which is based on years of proven materials  (Proflex, Pertex Shield, Matrix), so the Cinder collection won’t let you down on any adventure on two wheels.

Pertex® Shield

Cycling Special is based on the pure ultralight model Phantom Pull-On, which is one of the lightest rain jackets in the world. The same goes for its cycling counterpart, which offers protection against water and wind in a miniature package weighing just 113.5 grams (size M). This low weight is made possible mainly by the top-of-the-line, stretchy 2.5-layer material 7D Pertex® Shield with specifications 20,000 mm / 20,000 g/m². This material has been thoroughly tested by countless runners and trail runners, whether in races or extreme mountain events, specifically with the aforementioned Pull-on. Above all, the extreme lightness, packability and sufficient breathability of this piece won their hearts. And it is precisely these features that Rab adapts and tailors to the needs of all cyclists, bikers, and bikepacking adventurers.

The slight increase in weight compared to its predecessor is due to the use of this material in a slightly higher weight, specifically 51 g/m². Otherwise, the jacket remains unchanged.

Rab Cinder Phantom 2.0

The cut—and indeed the entire jacket—is tailored to the cycling position and riding. The cropped front and extended back with a non-slip finish featuring the Cinder collection logo ensure that the jacket fits perfectly in the saddle. The bottom hem of the jacket is partially elastic and adapts perfectly to the base layers. The "articulated" pre-shaped sleeves feature extended cuffs to protect the hands and a partially elastic hem. The hood, with an elastic hem around the face, is designed to fit under a helmet and features a lightly reinforced peak. The system for rolling up the hood and attaching it to the collar when not in use is incredibly functional. It doesn’t get in the way, offers no resistance, and—just like the rest of the jacket—you barely notice it’s there, but in a moment you can bring it back into action. With a little know-how, you can do this easily without even having to take off the jacket. This is another difference from the original Pull-on  and the Phantom Cinder features a lightweight, full-length and heat-sealed  YKK zip, which is also ergonomically curved for maximum comfort. The hood’s new ventilation system also serves as an integrated pocket for packing the jacket. The resulting bundle is about the size of a child’s fist and can be clipped anywhere using the loop.

Overall, we were really looking forward to the Cinder collection, but when we first put it on, we had slightly mixed feelings. Its purpose and advantages really stand out only when you sit behind the bike’s cockpit and start pedaling. Nothing gets in the way, nothing pulls, it fits perfectly, and it enhances the riding experience. The Rab Cinder Phantom, just like its running counterpart, is such a small and lightweight package that you simply can’t leave it at home—you have to take it with you on your cycling adventures.
