The Downpour Light quickly gained considerable popularity among you, so this season we’re pleased to introduce its running variant, the Rab Downpour Trail Light. And it’s no wonder. The Downpour Light is based on the now-iconic and best-selling waterproof jacket from Rab - Downpour.
Materials and Technology
Rab has once again used its own Proflex membrane in a 2.5-layer version with 20D (denier) and a weight of 72 g/m². Thanks to this material, the jacket offers standard water column/breathability ratings of 20/20 while maintaining a low weight.

The main goal during development was to make the jacket lighter and adapt it as much as possible to running activities. This was achieved, and the jacket now weighs a solid 172.5 grams in size S. Despite this, the full-length YKK® AquaGuard® central zipper has been retained. In contrast, one zippered pocket has been removed, and the other has been moved to the left side of the chest. This is perfectly sufficient for us and also serves as a pocket for packing the jacket. The one-sided drawcord at the bottom hem is simple and functional. The hem is also treated with a non-slip finish, and this combination really keeps the jacket in place. The fully adjustable hood with a drawstring fits beautifully. If necessary, it can easily be worn under a helmet. The sleeves feature extended cuffs that protect the wrists. Passive safety features in the form of reflective elements will be appreciated not only by night and winter runners.
All of the above, combined with a very attractive price tag, puts the Rab Downpour Trail Light in a very interesting light. Although the jacket is primarily designed for running, it also works well as a classic backup for day trips. With well-optimized and lightweight gear, it will also serve you well on multi-day treks.
