Together with Rab's best-selling down jacket Microlight Alpine, the waterproof jacket Downpour Plus 2.0—arguably the most effective combo in terms of price-to-performance ratio in our lineup. And as true ultralight enthusiasts, we can’t hide our excitement that the guys and girls at Rab have prepared a lightweight version of this hardshell jacket for us this season—the Rab Downpour Light.
Rab Downpour Light
Rab used its own Proflex membrane in a 2.5-layer version with 20D (fiber denier) and a weight of 72 g/m². Thanks to this material, the jacket offers standard waterproofing/breathability ratings of 20/20 while maintaining a low weight (219 grams in size M). Add to that excellent packability and a very reasonable price tag, and we have a contender for waterproof jacket of the year. With the Rab Downpour Light, you’ll find everything you’ve come to expect from the time-tested Rab Downpour. A generously sized hood with an elastic peak. It easily accommodates a climbing helmet, but thanks to its clever drawcord system, it works great even for everyday use without a helmet.
The full-length central zipper is, of course, YKK, as are the zippers on the two hand pockets. The pockets are also really large, and, for example, ski mountaineering enthusiasts can easily stuff their climbing skins into them. Other enthusiasts can fit whatever else they need to have on hand :) There are also other handy features you’ve come to expect from Rabu. Extended sleeve cuffs and a light anti-slip finish on the back hem. The back is 74 cm long in size M. The jacket has a looser fit (Regular Fit) and provides plenty of room for additional layers.
