Rab Downpour Plus 2.0 Pants are waterproof, over-the-trousers featuring the proven Pertex Shield membrane, which is now made from recycled 40D polyamide with a PU coating. Unlike the basic version Downpour Eco they feature full-length YKK AquaGuard® waterproof zippers.

This makes them suitable for all mountain activities where the weather is highly variable and you constantly need to put on and take off waterproof layers—such as ski mountaineering. Thanks to the full-length zippers, they also offer better ventilation. Both ends—at the waist and at the legs—feature snap fasteners, making them even quicker and easier to put on. If you leave the top snap at the waist fastened, you can unzip the pants from the top for good ventilation. At first touch, they feel sturdier than the classic Downpour Eco, but appearances can be deceiving. The weight of the material used is actually slightly lower.

Despite the full-length zippers on the legs, the pants pack down very well. Pertex Shield® 2.5L provides effective protection against wind and rain while offering excellent breathability. The outer fabric has a flawless DWR finish—as is customary with Pertex—and thanks to this, it retains excellent breathability even when wet (unlike others…).

An older model with half-length zippers in both men’s and women’s versions accompanied us on our journey along the 4,500 km-long Continental Divide Trail. Even after five months of intensive use, the waterproofing was still excellent, and what we appreciate most is that they’re comfortable even against bare skin. We didn’t have long pants with us, so we’d pull them over our shorts in the rain or cold.
