The Rab Muon ND40 women's backpack is the latest addition to the family of ultralight backpacks from this iconic British brand. This backpack offers a rather unique set of features that make it a very interesting choice for long-distance treks, fast hiking, and generally any activity where low weight, maximum efficiency, and comfort are important.

Lightweight and extra-strong material

The foundation of the entire backpack is high-quality recycled nylon reinforced with Spectra® fiber, making it an extremely durable yet very lightweight material that is the perfect choice for backpacks of this type. 

Supportive back system

Even though the Rab Muon ND40 is a very lightweight backpack, its back system is above average for ultralight backpacks. Comfort for very long days outdoors is ensured by the TRI-FLEX™ back system with an internal rod structure and very substantial padding on the shoulders. The hip belt is cleverly integrated with the back system, and thanks to its very decent padding, it forms a highly comfortable unit.

Extra storage space

The backpack features interestingly designed shoulder straps somewhat in the style of a running vest. Both straps have spacious zippered mesh pockets that can easily hold even a larger smartphone, energy bars, or other small items. Two interconnected chest straps ensure optimal stabilization of the backpack. Raba didn’t forget the often-overlooked stabilizing straps, which allow you to pull the load closer to your center of gravity.

The side pockets on this backpack are extremely spacious, so they can hold even the largest water bottles. Plus, they’re very easy to access. These pockets also partially replace the hip belt pockets, which are missing on this backpack.  On the outside of the backpack is a great front mesh pocket, which works very well for storing a sweatshirt, jacket, and similar items you want to keep close at hand throughout the day..

A top compression strap helps stabilize the backpack and secure additional gear. There are additional compression straps on the sides and bottom of the backpack that can be used to attach extra gear, such as a foam sleeping pad. A very well-designed small internal zippered pocket is excellent for storing money, documents, keys, etc. This pocket also has two compartments. One compartment is accessible only from the outside of the backpack, and the other from the inside. The external opening is also cleverly hidden.

Roll-top closure

As has become customary with ultralight backpacks in recent years, this backpack also features a single large main compartment that closes with a roll-top closure. This allows you to pack the backpack more fully if needed or, conversely, compress it to a minimum. Inside the backpack, there is also a pocket for storing a hydration bladder of up to 3 liters, which attaches via a carabiner. The tube can then be easily routed out and attached to the shoulder strap. Trekking poles can be attached to this backpack in two ways. They can either be clipped to the side of the backpack using loops on the shoulder strap and hip belt, or using a system at the bottom and top of the backpack. If necessary, an ice axe can also be attached using this system.

Conclusion

The Rab Muon ND40 backpack will be an excellent companion for anyone who wants to move quickly and efficiently over long distances and already has their gear optimized. Even though the backpack is very lightweight, it can easily handle loads of up to approximately 15 kg. For those who find the 40-liter version too small, we also offer the Rab Muon ND50. The ND40 version is slightly narrower, has a shorter back panel, and is suitable for women or people with shorter backs. We also offer a longer men's version, the Rab Muon 40.
