The most popular sleeping pad for long treks, the Therm-A-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT, gets a fresh new look! For a long time, the biggest drawback of these sleeping pads was their highly crinkly material. But that’s a thing of the past! The manufacturer has introduced a completely new internal construction called Triangular Core Matrix™, which has reduced noise by 83% compared to the previous version of the sleeping pad. In addition, the sleeping pad is about 1 cm thicker than the previous version, and the R-value has been increased to 4.5. This makes the sleeping pad suitable for use in colder conditions. However, when sleeping on snow, we still recommend supplementing it with a foam sleeping pad or, better yet, choose a regular winter sleeping pad Therm-A-Rest XTherm NXT or Therm-A-Rest XTherm NXT Max.
Patented WingLock™ valve
Therm-a-Rest has been using this valve on its sleeping pads for three years now. Compared to older models, it has up to three times the airflow, so it inflates in a flash—and packs down even faster. The one-way design prevents air from escaping while inflating. When packing, simply flip the “wings,” release the valve, and all the air immediately escapes. Finally, a few twists, the last bits of air gone—and you’re done. Simple, fast, and effortless.
Inflator
Inflators included in the package have also become standard in recent years. This makes inflating the mat easier and, most importantly, prevents as much moisture from getting inside the mat as when inflating by mouth. The bag can be closed and can also be used to store other gear (it is not waterproof). Thanks to low-volume materials, the mat packs down easily. The patented reflective technology ThermaCapture™ captures radiant heat, and the triangular chamber design Triangular Core Matrix™ prevents heat loss without significantly increasing the mat’s bulk.
Durability
In our experience on long trails, the Neo Air is incredibly durable. Much more so than it looks. It proved its worth to us during our crossing of Israel, where it withstood sharp rocks, sand, and high temperatures in the desert without the slightest issue. So Therm-a-Rest definitely did a good job here. It definitely belongs in our lineup of UL products. As is customary in the ultralight world, we still recommend placing a Tyvek sheet under this mat to minimize the risk of punctures.
Dimensions
The sleeping pad comes in four sizes, so everyone can choose exactly the size that suits them. A shorter version measuring 168 x 51 cm is available. The standard version is 183 x 51 cm, and the extra-wide version is 183 x 64 cm. For taller people, the extended version measuring 196 x 64 cm is ideal. The range also includes the NXT Max version, which has a rectangular shape.

Therm-A-Rest is synonymous with comfortable and lightweight sleeping. Essentially, ever since its founding in 1971, it has been a leader in the outdoor sleeping pad market, and that position isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
