The Therm-A-Rest NeoAir XTherm NXT is based on the most popular model Neo Air X-lite, but that model has significantly lower thermal resistance and is no longer sufficient in winter conditions. In contrast, XTherm NXT boasts a fantastic thermal resistance of R = 7.3! This high thermal resistance value will easily suffice for sleeping on snow and in typical freezing conditions. For a polar expedition, however, we would still pack a foam pad just to be safe. Compared to the previous model, we managed to further increase the thermal resistance R while slightly reducing the overall weight.

Lightweight yet durable material

The underside of the mat uses more durable 70D nylon, which withstands even prolonged expedition use. The top side features 30D ripstop nylon, which ensures low weight and good packability. Even so, we recommend placing a Tyvek sheet The biggest highlight is the included inflation bag. Therm-A-Rest really nailed this one. It’s lightweight, compact, and lets you inflate the mat in no time. In winter conditions, you’ll especially appreciate not having to inflate the mat with your mouth and deal with moisture inside the mat.

Great valve

Therm-a-Rest has been using this valve on its sleeping pads for three years now. Compared to older models, it has up to three times the airflow, so it inflates in a flash—and packs down even faster. The one-way design prevents air from escaping while inflating. When packing it up, simply flip the “wings,” loosen the valve, and all the air immediately escapes. Finally, a few twists to remove the last bits of air—and you’re done. Simple, fast, and effortless. The sleeping pad naturally comes with a stuff sack, repair kit, and inflation bag.
