Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Rab Mythic -12 °C down sleeping bag is an updated model from the new line of high-tech down sleeping bags featuring TILT technology Rab Mythic. This is an improved version of the Rab Mythic 600.

Rab is down

It has been over 50 years since Rab Carrington gained his first experience sewing down sleeping bags in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And it has been 45 years (2026) since the first sleeping bag under the  Rab brand saw the light of day. Even in his very first model, Carrington incorporated his extensive experience from mountain climbs. Thanks in part to his good reputation within the close-knit climbing community, demand for his sleeping bags began to grow relatively quickly.

The goal was to create high-quality, lightweight, and warm sleeping bags that would perform well in the mountains. At the same time, he stuck to his motto:

Nothing fancy or overly technical—just honest, functional pieces that you’d rather repair than replace. By climbers, for climbers”.

And we at Nalehko are very happy, that Rab is continuing in this direction even in the 21st century. Simply put, these are products you can 100% rely on while trekking, and they won’t let you down even in the most demanding conditions. During our own adventures we’ve used countless models from this iconic British brand, and we’ve always been completely satisfied.

And that is precisely why, just like the other products in our range, we are delighted to offer them to you, our customers.

Rab Mythic -12 °C

The Rab Mythic series of sleeping bags is designed with a focus on maximizing weight and volume reduction. Specifically, the Rab Mythic -12 °C weighs a mere 920 grams (size Regular).

Construction

The main innovation is the use of the revolutionary L.O.F.T 3D™ chamber construction. These are offset, spiral-shaped baffles that prevent down migration, keep it evenly distributed, and maximize heat retention. At the same time, they enable top-notch insulation properties with a smaller volume and lighter weight of the sleeping bag. Special side baffles eliminate cold spots and ensure that when sleeping on your side you won’t be lying on a seam.

Heat loss is also prevented by the well-designed drawstring 3D down collar combined with an anatomically shaped drawstring hood.

The sleeping bag has a "wide" mummy shape with an anatomically shaped "foot box". A generous cut for greater sleeping comfort with room for leg movement.

Thermo Ionic Lining Technology - TILT

This is a special technology developed by Rabu. In addition to sleeping bags, you can also find it in the top-of-the-line jackets from the series of the same name, namely Mythic Ultra and Mythic G.

Individual fabric fibers are coated with an extremely thin layer of  titanium, which helps reflect the user’s radiated heat back to the body, thereby reducing heat loss by up to 30% without compromising the fabric’s breathability or adding a single gram to the sleeping bag’s total weight.

Materials

Rabu has opted for the proven Pertex® Quantum. A lightweight, breathable, windproof material tested over countless nights.  The sleeping bag’s lining is now 10D Recycled Atmos™ featuring the aforementioned TILT technology. As is typical for Rab, it includes a DWR water-repellent finish fluorocarbon-free.

The zipper used is a lightweight YKK® with a down-insulated barrier.

Top-quality down

And finally, the most important part. The Rab Mythic -12 °C is filled with 590 grams of premium European goose down with a fill power of 900FP (size Regular). This ranks it among the reliable three-season sleeping bagsGrangers hydrophobic treatment (fluorocarbon-free, of course) combined with the outer fabric’s DWR coating provides solid water resistance for the entire sleeping bag

The down traditionally comes with a certificate of origin R.D.S.  All Rab sleeping bags are hand-filled in Derbyshire, UK. Rab also guarantees that its down has never been compressed prior to use, thereby retaining its loft and resilience.

Temperature Limits

Temperature limits according to ISO 23537-2:2022 are: Comfort: -5 °C, Limit: -12 °C, Extreme: -33 °C.

Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt.  We are all different, so the temperatures listed should be viewed more as a guide for choosing the right sleeping bag. The standard is based on the parameters of an average man— 25 years old, 173 cm, 73 kg  and a standard woman—25 years old, 160 cm, and 60 kg.

The temperatures listed represent a range derived from a series of measurements, starting from the upper temperature limit at which a person is able to sleep throughout the night without waking up and extending to the extreme temperature that determines the minimum temperature at which a person can survive.

A lot also depends on using a high-quality sleeping pad.  Thermal comfort can also be increased with a sleeping bag liner.

Our Experience

I spent 7 nights in the Mythic Ultra -12 °C sleeping bag during an Easter ski tour in Norway. To be honest, I was hoping I wouldn’t reach the bag’s temperature limit, but in the end, I did. First and foremost, I was very pleasantly surprised by how spacious the sleeping bag is. At 182 cm and 92 kg, I feel completely comfortable inside. The footbox is huge, and even though I don’t quite understand why, I didn’t use my down booties during the entire week of sleeping on the snow. Most nights, when it was a few degrees below freezing, I slept quite comfortably, which I would expect from 600 g of down. However, the night when the thermometer dropped below -10 °C was also unexpectedly comfortable. Only my nose and mouth were sticking out of the sleeping bag, but I didn’t even have to reach for my down jacket, which surprised me quite a bit. The Rab Hypersphere down sleeping pad also did its job, and the night was completely fine. The hydrophobic treatment of the down significantly helps with drying the sleeping bag, because the chosen color combination doesn’t help at all (especially in the snow). (Honza Ž.)
