Nikwax Down Wash Direct is the first product specifically designed for cleaning and maintaining both natural and hydrophobic down! It’s not just waterproof jackets that require care, but also clothing and gear filled with natural and hydrophobic down. Regular washing and improper drying can damage the down in clothing and gear—Down Wash Direct offers a safe cleaning method:

• An easy solution for caring for down-filled clothing and sleeping bags.
• Restores the natural insulating properties of down while preserving its structure.
• Restores or enhances the water-repellency of all types of hydrophobic down (which absorbs 40 times less water than natural down) as well as the outer fabric surface of clothing and sleeping bags.

After washing and thorough rinsing, simply squeeze the water out of the jacket/sleeping bag (by rolling it on the bottom of the tub—never lift down products filled with water, as this could damage the internal structure of the chambers that hold the fine down in place) and then ideally dry it in a dryer on a very low temperature, if the product label allows it. To help fluff up any clumps of down, it’s a good idea to place two clean tennis balls in the drum with the jacket. This will give the dry down excellent loft. Drying down products is a long process and must be completed thoroughly.
