Rab Ascendor

The days of classic thick fleeces are likely well and truly over, and in recent years, lighter pieces with textured fleece have been taking center stage. Proof of this is the Ascendor mid-layer series, which became one of Rab’s absolute bestsellers last season. This line, available in various styles and combinations, is based on the recycled "Rab-style" Thermic material.

Materials

Rab has unveiled innovations for the Ascendor line for 2025. The Ascendor Summit Hoody 2.0 model features perhaps the most significant innovations. It remains a technical hybrid hoodie combining top-of-the-line materials "mapped" according to anticipated physiological exertion.

The new version also features a third material PrimaLoft® Evolve Active. This can best be compared to the iconic Polartec Alpha. And just like it, it performs best during aerobic activity in cold conditions. You’ll typically encounter it most often in ski mountaineering,  mountaineering, and cross-country skiing. Our lineup featuring this insulation also includes, for example, the Rab Evolute Hoody. 

Other materials include Thermic™ G and Pertex® Quantum Air. The first is a soft fleece produced in-house by Rab and used throughout the entire Ascendor. This is a proven, functional, and therefore popular material. The Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody 2.0 features the G (Grid) variant with an internal grid structure weighing 235 g/m².

The legendary Japanese Pertex hardly needs any introduction. Virtually every jacket from high-quality outdoor brands features some material from this manufacturer. This is because it offers an unmatched balance of weight, breathability, and durability. In this case, the Pertex® Quantum Air used ensures the Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody 2.0 is windproof yet breathable. 

This combination protects against the wind, wicks away moisture exceptionally well, and is therefore ideal for highly aerobic activities. It can be used as both an outer and a mid layer.

Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody 2.0 

In addition to the added material, its ingenious construction has also been innovated. The windproof Pertex now extends the full length to the bottom hem of the jacket, along the entire length of the sleeves, and now covers the entire back as well. It is lined with the aforementioned extra-breathable PrimaLoft® Evolve Active. For better ventilation, Thermic™ G is used on the sides of the jacket (without PrimaLoft and Pertex), with a smooth transition across the underarms to the lower sleeves and down to the wrists. It is also used in the hood, which is designed to fit under a helmet.

In our opinion, definitely a step forward. The Rab Ascendor Summit Hoody 2.0 is now even more suitable for demanding ascents and also works better as an outer layer.

The jacket features two hand pockets and one chest zip pocket. The sleeves have thumb holes, and all hems are elastic. The central zipper runs the full length.

Just like its predecessor, you’ll get the most use out of this piece during any winter activity. It is the ultimate piece in the Ascendor series. We also offer an ultralight version Rab Ascendor Light Hoody or the happy medium Rab Ascendor Pro Hoody now with improved wind protection.
