Rab Mythic Ultra

The Rab Mythic Ultra is the warmest piece in the new Mythic series. It was developed as the culmination of several years of experience by engineers at Rab. True experts in down and ultralight gear, who were tasked with creating the perfect alpine jacket. Currently, this is the absolute technical pinnacle of down jackets from this British brand in our lineup. For Rabu connoisseurs or those who love numbers, let’s compare it to the iconic Neutrino Pro (585 g in size M, 212 g down/800FP). Thanks to the latest technologies, the Mythic Ultra is 150% warmer but more than 10% lighter. This makes it the down jacket with the best warmth-to-weight ratio Rab has ever produced.  As mentioned above, the Rab Mythic Ultra Down Jacket won a prestigious award at the largest outdoor trade fair upon its launch ISPO - Award 2022.

Cutting-edge technologies

The jacket features Thermo Ionic Lining Technology (TILT), which you may recognize from, for example, the uncompromising Rab Mythic Ultra sleeping bag series in our lineup. In short, the individual fabric fibers are coated with an extremely thin layer of titanium, which helps reflect the user’s body heat back toward the body, thereby increasing thermal comfort without compromising the fabric’s breathability or adding to the jacket’s overall weight. Combined with offset chambers that distribute the down evenly around the body, ensuring there are no cold spots in the center caused by stitching on either the inner or outer side. This technology is typically used in much heavier expedition-style jackets. The sleeves and hood are sewn using the classic quilted method. This is to increase arm mobility and reduce bulk in the hood.

Insulation and Material

The Mythic Ultra Jacket also demonstrates that even an extremely technical product does not have to compromise on the selection of environmentally friendly materials. For insulation, Rab uses top-quality European goose down with a fill power of 900FP, which is certified according to the Responsible Down Standard and treated with a hydrophobic DWR finish from Nikwax. This ensures that the down retains its loft much longer and does not lose its insulating properties as quickly when wet. The outer material, as in the entire Mythic series, is 100% recycled 10D Pertex® Quantum ripstop with a fluorocarbon-free DWR finish. The inner lining is the same but without the DWR treatment, and in the most critical area—the center of the body—it is covered with 100% polyester fabric with an aluminum coating (15 g/m²). This secondary lining helps reduce radiant heat loss by up to 15% and further enhances thermal comfort. In addition, this extremely lightweight material allows the down to "fluff up" to its maximum, fully utilizing the high insulating properties of 900FP down. 

Fit and Features

Rab has also used a new jacket cut on this model with “pre-curved” sleeves, allowing for even greater freedom of arm movement—so essential for mountaineering activities—while also saving weight. This is hard to describe; we definitely recommend trying it out, because as soon as you put this piece on, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. Compared to, for example, the ultralight version Mythic Alpine Light  , this jacket has a looser fit (Regular Fit) and features a two-way YKK® VISLON® zipper for comfortable use with a harness. Storage capacity is provided by two large YKK zippered hand pockets and one YKK zippered chest pocket. The hood is a standout feature; designed to fit over a helmet, its ingenious internal adjustment ensures it doesn’t flap around, making it comfortable to wear even without a helmet. It is sufficiently flexible, does not restrict movement, and features a reinforced brim. The jacket’s bottom hem is adjustable on both sides.

is the ultimate jacket with one of the best weight-to-warmth ratios in the world. Designed for mountaineers, climbers, and maximum performance. All zippers, adjustment features, and accessories have been designed to be lightweight and compact. In our opinion, this is a fantastic example of an ultralight and extremely warm jacket.
