is a new, ultimate series of down jackets designed for an uncompromising balance of weight and thermal insulation properties. Designed for mountaineers and alpinists who like to move fast and light. Every single element, all zippers, adjustment systems, and accessories have been designed to be lightweight and compact, while ensuring the jackets maintain excellent thermal insulation properties. In this collection, you’ll find the lightest and warmest jackets Rab has ever made.

Rab Mythic Alpine Light

The ultralight Rab Mythic Alpine Light jacket can be considered the successor to the extremely popular and lightweight Rab Kaon hybrid model. At the time, it was considered one of the lightest down jackets in the world, and it completely won us over here at Nalehko. And it’s exactly the same with its successor. It meets absolutely everything we think a true UL insulated jacket should have. At the same time, it’s also the lightest model in the newly launched Mythic Ultimate series.

Hybrid Insulation

The main insulation consists of 80 grams of top-quality goose down with an impressive 900FP fill power and a fluorocarbon-free water-repellent treatment from Nikwax. Of course, the Rab comes with an R.D.S. certificate of origin for the down. For additional insulation on the sides, shoulders, lower sleeves, and bottom of the hood, Rab chose the time-tested PrimaLoft® Gold (60 grams). This well-thought-out concept of combining natural and synthetic insulation has proven itself excellently in the aforementioned Kaon and is therefore logically continued. The Rab Mythic Alpine Light jacket breathes very effectively and efficiently wicks away body moisture. Unlike a classic down jacket, you don’t have to worry about wearing it for more physically demanding activities, and thanks to its water-repellent finish, it can even handle light rain. Strategically placed PrimaLoft® Gold also provides insulation even when wet and doesn’t lose its loft.

Materials and Weight

To reduce the final weight to an absolute minimum, the designers used extremely lightweight and 100% recycled 10D Pertex® Quantum ripstop for this model. Despite its extremely low weight, it is sufficiently strong, durable, and windproof, yet soft and comfortable to wear. A water-repellent DWR finish is, of course, standard for jackets in this category. In the case of climate-neutral company, Rab is also fluorocarbon-free. The resulting weight is an impressive 277 grams in size M.

Cut and Features

Rab has also used a new jacket cut with “pre-twisted” sleeves on this model, allowing for even greater freedom of arm movement—so essential for climbing activities—while also saving weight. This is hard to describe; we definitely recommend trying it out, because as soon as you put this piece on, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. The jacket has a generally slimmer fit. The hood fits just as nicely, with an elastic hem ensuring a snug fit, just like the sleeve cuffs. It stays firmly in place on your head, and when you move, the hood moves with you without restricting your freedom of movement or peripheral vision; however, it is not designed to be worn over a helmet. The bottom hem of the jacket features a non-slip finish and is adjustable on one side. The central YKK® zipper is finished with a fleece lining to protect the chin. Two large zippered (also YKK) hand pockets are a welcome addition compared to its predecessor, but to save weight, they are not lined with down.

Like all other down jackets, you can use it year-round—whether just over a T-shirt without needing to layer up on cooler days, or as an additional layer in an insulation system for all your adventures.
