Can you feel it? That restlessness driving you beyond the horizon? The Gossamer Gear Skala 38 is here for those who aren’t afraid of longer treks and occasionally like to test their own limits. It’s lightweight, adaptable, and built to support you in any situation. Simply put, it’s a backpack that lets you go even further. Its design and name are inspired by the Czech word “skála” (rock), so it’s built for the harsh environment of boulders, cliffs, and mountains that offer no mercy. Of course, we’re still in the ultralight category, so the backpack is primarily designed for movement in such environments, not for dragging it around rocks all day :-)

An ultralight companion for treks

With a volume of 38 liters (including pockets), the Skala 38 falls between the Kumo and G4-20 models, and thanks to its extremely low weight of 580 g, it will appeal even to true ultralight enthusiasts with streamlined gear. This lightweight, durable, and practical backpack, made from recycled 100D RipStop Robic Nylon and featuring a water-resistant (1500 mm) PU coating, offers roll-top closure for maximum flexibility. 

Comfort Without Compromise

The foam back panel adapts to most body types and can be easily removed and used as a seat pad. Wide, padded shoulder straps ensure comfort and feature mesh pockets for small items in the fast-packing style. The backpack’s stability is enhanced by a height-adjustable chest strap with a whistle. Unlike the smaller Grit 28, the Skala has a removable fast-belt-style hip belt with spacious zippered pockets.

Practical pockets

The large stretch mesh pocket made of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) on the front of the backpack is ideal for gear you need to have on hand during a trek—waterproof clothing, a water filter, a snack. This pocket (as well as the two smaller ones on the shoulder straps) is very durable thanks to the material used; it looks sturdy and promises a longer lifespan than standard mesh backpack pockets.

On the sides are spacious Robic Nylon pockets with integrated drawstrings for securely storing water bottles or other gear. Under the backpack lid is a practical zippered pocket for valuables.
