The Tiger Wall series is designed to be as lightweight as possible while maintaining ample space. The Tiger Wall UL1 is the lightest single-person double-wall tent with a side entrance from the iconic American brand Big Agnes. The Bikepack versions are designed specifically for cycling adventures. The poles feature short segments (30 cm) for maximum packability and a durable stuff sack with straps that can be attached directly to the bike. 

HyperBead™

The main innovation in the new models is the use of a new, proprietary material treatment technology called HyperBead™. In addition to being free of harmful substances, this brings us a whole range of benefits. Thanks to this innovative waterproof treatment, the tents are lighter, stronger, and more durable. In short, exactly what we want and value in ultralight gear. 

In terms of numbers, according to the manufacturer, tents with HyperBead™ technology have the following parameters compared to standard materials:

• 25% higher water resistance
• 65% greater strength

HyperBead™ contains no PFAS or other harmful substances.

Minimal weight 

The Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL 1 BikePack tent is designed with minimal weight in mind. Yet it still features a large side entrance and a spacious vestibule. The Y-shaped pole structure contributes significantly to weight savings. Thanks to the cross pole in the middle of the tent, the side walls of the inner tent are nearly vertical, providing ample space for a comfortable stay. If you want to sleep under the stars, you can set up the inner tent on its own. On the other hand, if you want to minimize weight, you can use the original “footprint” you can set up just the flysheet on its own, leave the inner tent at home, and effectively try out what it’s like to use a tarp.

Simple Setup

The same applies to setting up this tent as to all Big Agnes tents—you set up the inner tent first; the specially designed poles are color-coded, so you can’t go wrong. Stretch out the corners of the floor and stake them down; snap the mosquito net onto the aluminum poles. You can therefore use it for sleeping under the stars while still being protected from insects. Drape the waterproof flysheet over the inner tent and orient it correctly—the straps at the corners are color-coded again; at the top, thread the short cross pole through the rubber loops in the flysheet, and then secure the flysheet to the poles in several places with Velcro poles—this not only helps ensure proper tension but also significantly increases the tent’s wind resistance.  

At the point where the pole attaches to the floor, simply clip the flysheet to the floor strap using a plastic buckle. You can either thread the other tensioning points onto the floor tent pegs or use a cord and a linelock to tension and peg them separately. With a quick glance at the instructions, it goes smoothly and quickly even the first time. Everything is simple and well thought out. Many details of the tent show that Big Agnes knows what they’re doing—whether it’s the use of line locks or, for example, snapping the mosquito net onto the crossbar and threading it into the pockets in the flysheet.

Details designed for cyclists

The key changes from the standard version of the tent are poles with shorter segments and a waterproof cover that can be used as a bag. The individual segments are only 30 cm long. Thanks to this, the tent can be packed into a truly compact package that fits even between the bends of road/gravel handlebars. This is also related to the new waterproof cover. The very sturdy waterproof cover, designed like a roll-top dry bag, comes with two straps. The dry bag features loops that hold the straps in place, and thanks to these straps, you can attach the dry bag with the tent wherever you like. On the handlebars, on the rack, on the fork—wherever you want. 

Another small detail of the bikepacking version are the loops for drying clothes. These are located both at the top of the outer flysheet and at the top of the inner tent. A super-spacious pocket above the sleeper’s feet can be used to store a helmet.

Because the Tiger Wall uses a Y-frame design, the package includes additional guy lines that allow you to tension the bottom of the tent with a single pole, even on rocky terrain. You can easily thread the guy lines through the loops in the corners of the tent and then tie them to your bike.
