Rab Ascendor

The days of classic thick fleeces are likely well and truly over, and in recent years, lighter pieces made of textured fleece have been gaining popularity. Proof of this is the Ascendor mid-layer series, which became one of Rab’s absolute bestsellers last season. Available in various styles and combinations, it is based on the recycled "Rab-developed" Thermic material.

Materials

Just like in the entire Ascendor series, the light versions also feature the proven, recycled "Rab" Thermic™ material, this time in a lighter weight of 165 g/m² and in the S (stripes) variant. Breathability and moisture wicking are achieved in this variant through horizontal "wave-like" stripes on the inside of the sweatshirt, which alternate between areas with more and less insulation. The hoodie thus insulates through the stripes with more fleece and wicks sweat away through the stripes with less. This material is therefore ideal for aerobic activities in colder conditions—it keeps you warm and, thanks to excellent moisture wicking, keeps you dry even during more physically demanding activities.

Rab has rolled out innovations for the Ascendor line in 2025. However, the Light Hoody version features only cosmetic changes. Why change what works perfectly? The material, cut, and details remain the same. The only change is the chest pocket, which is now made from Rab’s Matrix™ fabric (you may recognize it from our best-selling jackets Borealis or the Torque pants). 

Accessories

The hoodie features a close-fitting hood with an elastic hem designed to be worn under a helmet. Similarly, the cuffs and bottom hem of the jacket are fitted with elastic trim. The hem is also "dropped," meaning it slopes downward from the torso toward the seat, providing protection for the lower back. The central and all pocket zippers are YKK, and the pockets are accessible even when wearing a climbing harness or a backpack waist belt.

Usage

With its specifications, the Rab Ascendor Light Hoody 2.0 is the ideal mid-layer for cooler temperatures during high-intensity activities (running, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, cycling…). In spring and summer temperatures, it will also easily serve as an outer layer for any activity in the mountains and outdoors in general. Thanks to flat, low-profile seams, the hoodie can also be worn directly against the skin as a base layer.
