Detailed information

Product detailed description

At first glance, it’s clear that weight is the top priority with this jacket. Don’t expect any pockets, extra drawstrings, or other technical features. OMM designs its clothing with the goal of keeping weight as low as possible while ensuring durability in harsh British conditions—and they do an excellent job of it! When packed down, the jacket is the size of a tennis ball, and at 100 grams, you won’t even notice it in your backpack. But when Armageddon hits the mountains, this little bundle becomes your quick lifesaver. It’s perfect as a backup jacket for long mountain runs, day hikes, or short bike rides.

Thanks to its fully taped seams, you can also use it as mandatory gear for ultra-long races. Paired with the waterproof Halo Pants, you’ll have a complete rain kit weighing around 180 grams! OMM manufactures the jacket from ultra-light yet durable 2-layer Point Zero H2O fabric with fully taped seams. Thanks to its 10,000 mm water column rating, it provides sufficient protection against rain.

Although the manufacturer lists the material’s vapor permeability as “only” 10,000 MVTR, it seemed far more breathable to us during testing. That’s why we had it measured by an expert from a technical university, who recorded RET values around 4, which corresponds to a vapor permeability of over 25,000 MVTR! As is traditional, OMM has paid close attention to technical craftsmanship and excellent fit.

The extra-long back panel is very well-designed, as is the excellent adjustment of the jacket’s bottom hem, which tightens only at the sides, preventing the jacket from bunching up at the back. The hood is very simple and features only an elastic hem, which is, however, perfectly sufficient. The sleeve hem is again elastic for use with gloves and includes a thumb hole. The sleeve cuffs are extended to provide good protection for the hand. A full-length YKK waterproof zipper underscores the high-quality craftsmanship of this piece.

Nalehko Experience:

I’ve thoroughly tested the Halo Smock jacket and I’m absolutely thrilled with it! I should note that I’ve mainly used it as a backup piece for long mountain runs. For longer, multi-day treks, I would likely opt for a jacket with a heavier fabric weight for greater durability. Even so, the jacket really surprised me. I used it several times during runs lasting several hours in the rain and found that the water column rating and the DWR finish work perfectly. Even after several hours in the rain, the jacket was still beading water, but nothing got inside. After the run, I was surprised that the jacket had actually breathed quite well. I don’t usually wear a waterproof jacket while running because at a brisk pace, you start to drown in your own sweat. However, the Halo Smock let a large portion of the sweat escape, so I still felt comfortable. I eventually took the jacket on a multi-day hike with my child, whom I carried on my back, and even with the heavier backpack, the jacket proved its worth. I should note, however, that I only had it on my back for about an hour a day in light rain. For longer treks and more frequent use, I would definitely choose a jacket with a heavier fabric weight and more layers. The Halo Smock has recently become my top choice. It’s the perfect choice for shorter trips with uncertain weather. Václav M.
