The Peak Design Capture Mount is the safest, most comfortable, and most convenient way to carry your camera. Unlike a traditional strap, the camera stays securely in place while walking, cycling, or moving around the studio.

Anyone who has ever spent a lot of time taking photos while traveling probably knows this. When you’re carrying a traditional, larger, and heavier DSLR or mirrorless camera, you’re constantly figuring out how to keep the camera within reach without it getting in the way while you walk. Many people eventually give up and just shove the camera into their backpack and stop taking photos, which is a real shame. Others keep lugging around a camera bag or a classic shoulder strap, but when combined with a backpack, these just get in the way, and this solution is far from comfortable.

The Peak Design Capture consists of two parts. The first is a sturdy metal mount that you can attach to virtually any strap on your backpack, belt, or even a bag. The second part is a tripod plate that you screw onto your camera. You simply snap the camera with the tripod plate into the mount and press a button to remove the camera again. The mount also features a simple safety lock to prevent accidental button presses.

Personal Experience

I’ve been using Peak Design products for years, and in my opinion, the Capture mount is the best camera mount on the market. Basically, I’m convinced that if you’re serious about photography while traveling, you can’t do without the Capture. By that, I mean, of course, those who carry DSLRs or mirrorless cameras—heavier and bulkier cameras. If you’re shooting with a smartphone or a tiny point-and-shoot, this usually isn’t an issue. What I like most about Peak Design is that all their product lines are perfectly integrated and well-thought-out. Every piece makes sense, and together they form a highly functional ecosystem that significantly simplifies life for anyone who holds a camera in their hands every day.

I usually take the Capture mount with me on every trip where I’m carrying my full photography gear (Fujifilm X-T5  + 2-3 lenses). I carry it on the shoulder strap of backpacks from Gossamer Gear  or on my Rebelt. I’ve also fallen in love with Peak Design’s system of anchors. I can attach these not only to my camera but also to a bag or tripod, and simply clip everything onto the great strap Leash  or Slide Lite. I use these when I’m not carrying a backpack but am going out to take photos, even if just for a few hours.

For use on long-distance treks, the Capture mount paired with a waterproof case Shell is also a great combination. You can “dress” your camera in it during rainy spells, so you don’t have to put it in your backpack and can still take photos along the way. The Shell also serves well as protection during transport.

The Capture mount is universal and works with all types of cameras, whether you have a small, compact mirrorless camera or a full-frame DSLR with a telephoto lens. The Capture can be attached to the vast majority of backpack shoulder straps up to 6.4 cm wide (wider straps can be compressed), belts, etc.

The tripod plate can be inserted into the mount in any of four directions, allowing you to orient the camera as desired—making lens changes very safe and quick. Once removed from the mount, the camera can be attached directly to an ARCA-compatible tripod using the included Standard Plate.
