The Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0 pants make an excellent set with the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 jacket, and they too feature the Proflex™ three-layer laminate as their main material. In the pants, this consists of two stretch nylon fabrics—an outer layer that is more durable and stiffer, and an inner layer that is softer and more breathable. Laminated between them is the polyurethane membrane itself, thanks to which the pants achieve a water column rating of 20,000 mm. In areas subject to mechanical stress (the front of the legs and the seat), an even stronger nylon fiber is used, which provides better abrasion resistance. You’ll appreciate this especially when climbing or ski touring.

The pants are highly stretchy and offer very decent breathability of 20,000 g/m² per 24 hours. They feature two side pockets with water-resistant YKK zippers and one hidden back pocket (the women’s model does not have this). An integrated belt provides waist adjustment; the buckle is positioned slightly to the right of center so it doesn’t interfere with handling a climbing harness. The pants fasten with two snaps and a fly featuring a water-resistant YKK zipper. The lower part of the legs features short zippers that allow the legs to be widened when worn with higher boots, and the inner part of the legs around the ankles is reinforced with thicker nylon for increased durability.        

Just like the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 jacket, the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 pants are designed for both low- and high-intensity activities throughout the year. They are ideal for the changing conditions of spring and fall, when temperatures fluctuate and showers alternate with clear skies. In winter, they serve as excellent outer protection against wind and wet snow. In summer, they work well as a reliable outer layer during brief showers.

However, the reinforced panels and slightly higher weight make the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 pants ideal for excelling primarily in activities that place higher demands on the material and require greater durability. They will thus prove their worth during winter and summer climbing, on via ferratas, or on ski tours. The Kinetic Alpine 2.0 pants are, of course, also suitable for activities such as hiking, running, or cross-country skiing, but it’s worth considering whether a lighter model Kinetic 2.0.
