For the 2021 season, Rab is introducing an improved version of its highly breathable, waterproof softshells, the Rab Kinetic Plus and Rab Kinetic Alpine. Based on several years of field use and feedback from many users, minor additions and some redesigns have been implemented, resulting in the Kinetic 2.0 and Kinetic Alpine 2.0. In terms of materials and overall design, the Kinetic 2.0 remains the same as its predecessor. The foundation of the entire jacket is still the three-layer Proflex™ laminate. This consists of two knitted layers with a polyurethane membrane between them. Unlike woven fabric, knit fabric is much softer and more elastic, which is why the Kinetic 2.0 feels much softer and more stretchy than standard waterproof jackets from the very first touch. The outer knit is woven as densely as possible to ensure good mechanical durability. The inner layer, in turn, has the structure and material of a functional T-shirt—ensuring rapid moisture wicking. It is essentially a functional T-shirt, a lightweight windbreaker, and a waterproof jacket all in one. Up to this point, everything is the same as with the Kinetic Plus model.

Proflex

Unlike the Kinetic Plus model, however, Rab manufactures the Proflex™ membrane knits for the Kinetic 2.0 model from recycled polyester. In doing so, Rab fulfills its core philosophy, which aims to prioritize environmental protection and meet the growing demands of sustainable development. In terms of individual features, the Kinetic 2.0 retains two large side pockets positioned high enough to be accessible even with the waist belt fastened, Velcro cuff adjustments, and a snug, elastic hood designed to fit under a helmet with a reinforced brim. What has changed in the Kinetic 2.0 model is the improved hood adjustment at the crown of the head, which allows for better handling and a tighter fit than the previous Velcro system. The most important change, however, is the addition of a waist adjustment. The lack of a waist adjustment was often criticized by Kinetic Plus users. The Kinetic 2.0 now features this adjustment.

Rab Kinetic 2.0

Thanks to its softness, flexibility, 10,000 mm water column, and breathability of 35,000 g/m² per 24 hours, the Kinetic 2.0 is the ideal jacket for both low- and high-intensity activities throughout the year, such as hiking, brisk walking, running, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, etc. It comes into its own in the changeable conditions of spring and fall, when temperatures fluctuate and showers alternate with clear skies. Its high breathability ensures that you won’t need to take it off as temperatures rise. In winter, it serves as excellent outer protection against wind and wet snow, and even in summer, it works well as a reliable outer layer during brief showers and thunderstorms. The Rab Kinetic 2.0 pants make a great addition to the entire outfit.
