The Rab Aeon Ultra 28 backpack is a direct challenge to traditional, orthodox running brands. It’s clear at first glance that Rab has made a highly successful entry into this sector. After all, trail running and all forms of fast-paced mountain activity have a centuries-old tradition in the British Isles. Over the years, we’ve carried a whole range of running backpacks from various brands, and almost every one had some flaw. With Rab, it’s clear that the designers really put thought into the development and strove to perfect every detail.

Durable and waterproof material

The Rab Aeon Ultra 28 is made from lightweight yet durable 70D x 140D nylon, which also features a Trishield coating with a 1500 mm water column. The backpack’s waterproofing is further ensured by fully taped internal seams.

Roll-top

As we’ve come to love in all ultralight backpacks, this one also features a roll-top closure. This significantly increases the packing capacity of the backpack. You can “inflate” it or roll it down to a minimum and use the excellent side compression straps to reduce the entire pack to a minimum volume. The backpack has a so-called conical shape, meaning it widens from the bottom up. This makes packing the backpack significantly easier.

Breathable back system

The Aeon’s back system is designed with maximum comfort and ventilation in mind. This is ensured by Air Contour™ technology. In short, there is a lightweight foam reinforcement in the back of the backpack with openings in the most critical areas. The entire reinforcement is then covered with a lightweight mesh.

In the style of a running vest

The shoulder straps are designed exactly in the style of a running vest. And it must be said that they are incredibly well-designed running vests! The straps are made of a two-layer 3D mesh, which again offers perfect comfort and breathability. On the right strap is a deep, mesh pocket primarily designed to hold a soft flask. This ensures you always have water on hand while on the move. Above this pocket is another small pocket that easily holds smaller items such as energy bars, gels, etc. The left strap has a spacious zippered pocket that fits the vast majority of smartphones. Here, too, there is another smaller elastic pocket where you can store any small items you want to keep close at hand. The hydration bladder pocket is brilliantly designed. It’s not inside the backpack, but the backpack has an external compartment on the back where the bladder can be easily inserted. This way, you can easily monitor your water intake and don’t have to constantly rummage through the backpack to access the bladder.

Stays put like a rock

The backpack’s fit on your back is very cleverly designed and provides excellent stability even during really active running. The two height-adjustable chest straps and the shoulder strap adjustments—ingeniously connected to the hip belt—work very well. For even better stability, the backpack also features essential balance straps.

Plenty of pockets

As for pockets, that’s not all. The backpack has a great, padded hip belt with two additional zippered pockets for storing small items. The deep side pockets on the body of the backpack are particularly well-designed. They offer perfect access from both the side and the top, so it’s easy to reach for anything even while on the move. The Raba also features a large, spacious front pocket that can hold everything you need—a jacket, a sweatshirt, pants, a water filter, or even a snack for the whole day.

Practical Details

Inside the backpack is a handy zippered pocket with a carabiner, perfect for storing documents and keys. They’ve also thought of a way to attach trekking or running poles. This is achieved through a system of two drawstrings, allowing you to easily secure the poles even while walking. This way, you don’t have to waste time stopping and taking off your backpack.

Backpack Back Length

The backpack is available in one back length (48 cm). Compared to its smaller sibling, the Aeon Ultra 20, it is significantly longer and will suit the vast majority of body types.
