Rab Borealis is undoubtedly our best-selling jacket and the Nalehko team’s favorite from Rab. A true all-rounder that, without exaggeration, you can use for everything. Sure, it’s a pretty overused phrase in the outdoor world, but here it’s just a fact. We wear this piece for running, climbing, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, backcountry, cycling, hiking, proms, and family celebrations. And it always performs flawlessly.

This is a lightweight, windproof softshell jacket with excellent breathability and durability. With the right mid-layer, you’ll have a great companion all year round.

Rab Borealis Hoody 2.0

After years, this cult classic has finally been updated for the 2025 season. The most significant change is the relocation of the "Napoleon" chest pockets lower down to the sides of the jacket—essentially like classic hand pockets. However, they’re still easily accessible, even when wearing a climbing harness. They’re also slightly smaller, but still offer solid storage capacity for essentials. They’re lined with mesh (100% Polyester), so they don’t compromise the jacket’s excellent breathability.

Like its predecessor, the hood is designed to fit under a helmet, but personally, we had no trouble wearing it over the helmet when necessary. Just like the entire jacket, it is wonderfully flexible with flat seams. The central zipper, as well as the zippers on the pockets, remains the best you can get today—YKK. Specifically, the central zipper is a one-way YKK® VISLON®, and it’s not just bearded guys who’ll appreciate the chin guard.

The bottom hem adjustment remains unchanged, and we’re glad about that. Simple and functional two-way adjustment. You don’t have to be a master craftsman to operate it with one gloved hand.

Matrix™

It’s the popular Rabácký softshell, proven in countless products in various weights. In our lineup, you’ll find it in our best-selling pants, such as the Torque or Ascendor, as well as in countless other Rab models. In the Borealis Hoody 2.0, it comes in a 130 g/m² weight—neither too little nor too much, just right. It is a lightweight yet sufficiently durable, recycled, elastic softshell with excellent wind resistance and breathability. It wicks away moisture brilliantly and dries incredibly fast. A DWR finish is now standard; in our case fluorocarbon-free. The jacket can withstand light rain or prolonged drizzle, but of course it is not a waterproof jacket. However, as we mentioned above, even if it gets wet, you’ll be dry again in no time after the rain. 

The Rab Borealis Hoody 2.0 is simply an iconic all-rounder in a new design. Add to that a great price tag, and it’s clear that we just can’t let you leave without it :)
