It’s made from lightweight, tightly woven Matrix™ stretch fabric, which offers excellent freedom of movement, wind protection, and fantastic breathability. It is a blend of polyamide with a higher percentage of elastane (85% polyamide, 15% elastane).
If you’re constantly fiddling with layers, this is a great choice. Thanks to its amazing breathability, it’s suitable for active movement in the mountains, cross-country skiing, trail running, cycling, climbing, via ferrata, and more. It’s lightweight and packs down easily, so you won’t even notice it in your backpack. It can even be packed into a pocket and hooked onto a loop on your harness, for example.
As a softshell, it will naturally get wet, but it can handle light rain and, most importantly, dries quickly!
A favorite all-rounder
The entire Nalehko team uses the previous Ventus and Boreas models for all outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, running, cycling, etc. On cooler spring and fall days, pairing it with a merino T-shirt is enough. In winter frosts, you can easily layer it with a thin fleece like the Ascendor (light) and you’ll be fine even for long, high-volume runs. With the Borealis, there’s no risk of you swimming in your own sweat.
The cut is similar to that of the Ventus Jacket. The Borealis is a few centimeters longer and has slightly shorter sleeves. Size M fits me perfectly (I’m 182 cm and 66 kg), and I still have plenty of room to fit a thin fleece underneath.
The jacket packs down into a pocket, which also has a loop for attaching it to a harness, for example.
Backpacker magazine named the Borealis Jacket one of the best softshells of 2018, and there must be something to that!
