The Microlight Alpine down jacket has been in production for over 12 years and, over the years, has firmly established itself as one of the bestsellers of the popular British brand Rab. As is customary, this model has undergone gradual development over time, and Rab has taken particular care with this year’s version. The human population is constantly growing, which is why it is important to think about sustainability and efforts to minimize our impact. Rab has also worked hard in this area in recent years.

The result is a versatile jacket that is entirely made from 100% recycled materials. Used down is collected in collaboration with the P.U.R.E. recycled down program. All down is washed, disinfected, and treated with a water-repellent finish by Nikwax.

Rab teamed up with P.U.R.E. to conduct a study confirming that recycling requires less water and energy consumption and has a lower carbon footprint than standard down processing. The used down is sorted in Italy, and P.U.R.E. is the only company with Global Recycling Standard certification. The jacket’s outer shell is made from the proven Pertex Quantum with a high-quality water-repellent DWR finish. Pertex is also fully recycled, including the inner 20D nylon.

Rab has also put a lot of effort into the product’s design, and we must say right away that the new Microlight is much fresher than previous generations and fits noticeably better.

The jacket is now constructed using a combination of zoned micro and nano panels to increase warmth without adding bulk or weight. Naturally, it features two hand pockets compatible with a climbing harness, and the third chest pocket for additional small items is a welcome addition. The hood is helmet-compatible, features an elasticated back panel for a better fit, and the circumference is easily adjustable via an integrated drawcord. Of course, a sturdy brim is also included. The sleeves have elastic cuffs, and the jacket can naturally be cinched at the waist as well.

Thanks to its design, the jacket is suitable for both your mountain adventures and city life. Plus, it offers added value in the form of recycled materials.
