The Rab Ascendor AS pants are versatile pants designed specifically for mountain climbing. Just like other climbing gear , however, we see them as fantastic all-rounders for basically anything. In this case, year-round—the AS designation stands for "All Season".

These are a heavier version of the summer-oriented Ascendor Light and thus offer greater thermal comfort for climbing in colder conditions. Like the entire "Ascendor" family, they are made from the proven Matrix™ fabric, also used, for example, in Rab bestsellers such as the Borealis Jacket or Torque pants, which they are partially based on. For the Ascendor AS model, Rab used a medium-weight fabric of 207 g/m² with a brushed inner surface to improve insulation properties. Softshell Matrix™ is stretchy and abrasion-resistant, highly breathable, and provides excellent wind protection. It also features a DWR finish for basic water protection.

The pants feature a perfectly tailored, close-fitting cut with anatomically shaped knees and a gusseted crotch, ensuring unrestricted movement even during the most challenging climbing maneuvers. A high, elastic waistband with the option to use suspenders or a belt further enhances overall comfort. Already abrasion-resistant, the pants are reinforced with even stronger material on the inner ankle for greater durability when used with climbing crampons, or to protect against cuts from ski edges during ski mountaineering. In addition, Rabu has also adapted the pant legs, equipping them with an elastic gusset with a zipper to pull over mountaineering or ski mountaineering boots, but they can also be comfortably used with classic trail running shoes. However, we also offer the Rab Khroma Ascendor designed specifically for ski mountaineering, which are equipped with a classic ski liner and are easier to pull over. The Ascendor AS fits more easily over narrower boots, but you might run into trouble with freeride boots. For hardcore winter climbers, we recommend the uncompromising Rab Ascendor Alpine. 

You can conveniently store your essentials in two zippered pockets with mesh lining and one zippered thigh pocket that’s easily accessible even when wearing a harness. With the Rab Ascendor AS, you get year-round performance pants that will reliably protect you from the elements, whether you’re ascending a snow-covered couloir or battling the elements on alpine north faces. At the same time, the pants maintain an acceptable weight of 449g (size M).

In our opinion, the Ascendor AS are fantastic all-season pants with absolutely universal use.
