Rab Mythic 600 Sleeping Bag
Code: QSI-46-CLO-REG-LZProduct detailed description
Why choose a Rab sleeping bag?
It has been 40 years since Rab Carrington began hand-sewing the first sleeping bag to bear his name in a small house in Sheffield. His initial designs were inspired by his mountaineering experiences. The goal was to create high-quality, lightweight, and warm sleeping bags that would perform well in the mountains. That is exactly what Rab does—lightweight and reliable. He thinks through the details and comes up with new materials. Like when he first used Pertex fabric in the 1990s, which is still used today to make the most durable down products or waterproof clothing that packs down into a small bundle. Simply put, we’re talking about gear you’d rather repair than throw away. Rab has long been among the absolute world leaders in down products. Their sleeping bags are filled at a factory in Derbyshire, UK. This ensures absolute control over the fact that the sleeping bags have never been improperly stored or compressed.
Rab Mythic 600
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better sleeping bag on the market with such an extremely low weight, thermal comfort, and technical sophistication. The Rab Mythic 600 is perfect for any situation where every gram counts, but you don’t want to compromise on comfort. The perfect choice for ultra-long treks and all kinds of mountaineering activities where speed, efficiency, and lightweight gear are top priorities! The entire sleeping bag is sewn from Rab’s proven 7DAtmos™fabric, which is one of the most advanced fabrics on the market today, utilizing the thinnest fibers. Despite its extremely low weight, it is very durable, windproof, highly packable, and above all, breathable. The fabric naturally features a top-of-the-line water-repellent DWR finish. Sleeping under the open sky and morning dew will therefore pose no problem for the sleeping bag. Despite its extremely low weight, the sleeping bag manufacturer hasn’t skimped on space. On the contrary, slim folks will revel in how much room there is inside, but even guys with broad shoulders and 95 kg will fit in without a problem! For this year, Rab has introduced a very welcome change in the form of a 3/4-length zipper (previously it was only half-length). Naturally, a high-quality two-way YKK zipper is used, which is additionally protected by a synthetic flap to prevent heat loss. Rab has used a new, innovative design for all its sleeping bags, featuring V-shaped chambers instead of straight ones. This allows for full utilization of the down’s properties, prevents cold spots, and minimizes filling movement within the chambers. The down stays centered in the chambers, ensuring warmth retention throughout the night.
The sleeping bag is filled with the highest quality goose down treated with a Nikwax water-repellent finish and a fill power of 900FP! This gives the sleeping bag an incredibly fluffy appearance. The water-repellent treatment allows the down to better withstand moisture, dry faster, and regain its full loft. R.D.S. certification of the down’s origin is a given. Rab has paid close attention to the technical details of the sleeping bag, which you’ll especially appreciate on cold nights in mountainous terrain. The sleeping bag features a perfect drawstring hood with an ergonomic collar. Both the hood and collar feel so fluffy that you’ll look forward to crawling into the sleeping bag. In addition, they feature handy, non-slip loops that are easy to handle even with numb fingers. The Mythic has a brilliantly designed angled “foot box” shaped like a fin, which provides plenty of room for your feet.
Comfort
Rabu’s comfort temperature is now measured according to the EN1357:2016 standard. Of course, we are all different, so the temperatures listed here should be taken more as a guide for choosing the right sleeping bag. The standard is based on the parameters of an average man—25 years old, 173 cm, 73 kg – and a standard woman – 25 years old, 160 cm, and 60 kg. The temperatures listed represent a range derived from a series of measurements, spanning from the upper temperature limit at which a person can sleep through the night without waking up to the extreme temperature that determines the minimum temperature at which a person can survive. Rab specifies comfort temperature (the ideal temperature you should use as a basis when choosing a sleeping bag), limit temperature (the temperature at which an average man can remain at rest for 8 hours without waking up), extreme limit (this should be taken as a guide to how the sleeping bag would perform in an emergency situation, not as a recommended use case. It refers to the temperature at which an average woman can remain for 6 hours without risk of death from hypothermia). In addition, Rab specifies the so-called “Rab limit”, which is based on their own experience and that of athletes and is considered a reasonable limit for the usability of the sleeping bag.
Our Experience
The first model of the Rab Mythic 400 was thoroughly tested by Petr Kosek back in 2018 during a 97-day trek on the Appalachian Trail :& nbsp;“The loft of this sleeping bag is incredible, as is the softness of the 7D nylon. I felt like I was going to tear it to shreds the first time I packed it. I took the sleeping bag into harsh winter/spring conditions mainly to thoroughly test the NIKWAX water-repellent treatment and also to see if it’s true that treated down is more fragile and loses loft quickly. The sleeping bag survived unscathed; the fabric really holds up better than it looks. The DWR performs as is standard with PERTEX—greatly; droplets stay on the fabric’s surface for several hours without soaking in. Under the tarp, I was always dry, but when sleeping in shelters, thick fog or wet snow would sometimes blow inside, and of course the DWR can’t handle that—a few times I woke up to find the sleeping bag at my feet quite damp. The treated down still retained its loft, so I never felt cold, and drying it was no problem. After 97 nights on the trail, I displayed the sleeping bag at a trade show, and no one could tell it had been used. So the loss of loft in the 900 FP down was minimal. I’d say it’s not that high-fill-power down has a shorter lifespan; it’s more that it’s more susceptible to contamination—grease and sweat. I change into clean sleeping clothes at night, so the sleeping bag will serve me well for hundreds more nights. For an ultralight, it’s super roomy inside. I was a bit bothered by the half-zip, because a few nights toward the end of the trail it was +15°C and I just wanted to use the sleeping bag as a blanket. That was an exception, though. For temperatures ranging from -5°C to +10°C, it was a great choice. You won’t find a warmer sleeping bag at this weight.” If you’re unsure how to choose the right sleeping bag, we’ve prepared a detailed guide for you – How to Choose a Sleeping Bag.
